Week 3: Re-Shoot

In order to create this picture, I used "macro" mode on my camera to be sure I can get a close up, detailed image. I did not use any zoom and the picture was taken at night so the lighting is all artificial. My lighting was the light over my kitchen sink with the main light for the entire room switched on also.
The reason I chose this arrangement was simply because I was aiming for something very weird. I think hands look strange if they are posed in the right shape and to add that strange gesture coming through a piece of bread just really seemed to work. I shot several bread and hand shots and this was the one that stood out the most to me and to the other classmates. The eye immediately goes the fingers and then is directed to the tendens in the wrist. Although the bread is the most unconventional part, it seems as if the gesture of the hand captures your attention more.
The concept for this photo was really a combination of matter out of place and unconventional lighting. Not often do you see a slice of bread with a creepy hand coming through it. That alone made it weird but also the contrast of the lighting. The light was a al coming from directly above so there are some pretty harsh shadows ont he lower sides of the fingers. This contrast and shadow really is what makes this image as weird as it is.

Week 2: Photoshoot

I created this picture by using "macro" mode on my camera and getting as parallel as possible with the rope shreds. I used no zoom because it tended to blur my image. The lighting was about 4:00 so the sun was still out but not very luminate. I used open windows and all overhead lights from the room.

The reason i choose to shoot  this rope from an angle rather than from a top view is because i wanted to really emphasize on the tangled, chaotic aspect of the strands. From a top view you would nt be able to see the detailed strands as well as you can from this view.

As far as concept I was not really trying to say an ythign in particular. I just really liked this shot and I like how is shows something as simple as rope being so chaotic and intense from a closer view.

Week 1: Introduction

My name is Eric Perryman. I am a Senior at Saint Xavier Univeristy. I recently had switched my major from Secondary Art Education to Graphic Design just weeks prior to student teaching. I have come to realize I have a stronger interest in creating art than instructing it. I am involved in music, bands, and tattooing, all which can benefit well from a Graphic Design background. I hope to be working with musicians and/or producers to do advertising, marketing, or some sort of design. I hope this class will give me the fundamentals that I don't already know in creating digital art.
